How much do I need to save each month?

As much or as little as you can afford – or feel you need - to cover your motoring costs. You may choose to keep your Car Repair Plan purely as an emergency “rainy day fund” or use it to budget for all your motoring costs. You may have only one car or a number of cars and you may wish to authorise other members of your family by giving them their own card (you can set an individual limit per car). If your circumstances or needs change you can vary your monthly payment or even stop it for a “payment holiday”. Once your fund has built up to a level that meets your needs you can stop payments entirely.

Is my money safe?

Yes, your money is not held by a single garage but in a Trust Account held on behalf of the Retail Motor Industry Federation, the umbrella body of the Independent Garage Association. It has been in continuous operation since 1913.

Does the garage know how much money I have in the account?

The garage (Village) can never see how much money you have in your plan (although they can confirm the availability of funds for any particular job). All participating garages are IGA members who are Trust My Garage approved and have signed up to adhere to a strict code of practice.

Will I get any interest on my savings?

No – but there are no costs either. Participation in the scheme is entirely free.

Can I withdraw money from my plan?

No, the scheme is designed to allow motorist to budget for the routine as well as unexpected costs of motoring. If you could withdraw money, it would not be available when it was really needed for a motoring expense.  You can of course close your Car Repair Plan at any time and your money will be refunded in full.
