MOT testing

All cars registered in the United Kingdom are required by law to have a valid MOT certificate if they are three years old or over and are to be used on public roads. An MOT certificate is issued after a vehicle is inspected by a VOSA vehicle tester and found to meet all the requirements laid down by the agency.
You may apply for a new MOT certificate up to one month prior to the expiry of the current certificate and, provided the current certificate is presented at the time of the test the new certificate will run from the expiry date of the old one.
At Village Motor Company there is a designated safe viewing area where you can watch the entire MOT test being carried out.
An MOT certificate cannot be relied upon as proof that a vehicle is legally roadworthy, and an MOT certainly does not take the place of correct servicing.

Items covered by the MOT test include:
  • Steering system including power steering
  • Braking system including ABS and servo
  • Compulsory lights
  • Windscreen wiper / washer system
  • Tyres and wheels
  • Bodywork where it effects structural integrity / pedestrian safety.
  • Wheel bearings and drive shafts including seals
  • Suspension system including springs, shock absorbers and bushes
  • Exhaust system
  • Chassis
  • Exhaust system and catalytic convertor (where applicable)
  • Exhaust emissions and excessive visible smoke (Diesel)
